Important Update

All in-person activities are temporarily suspended. Read more here.

Christmas Eve

Our Church Online Christmas Eve Worship Celebration will be on our YouTube Channel on Christmas Eve, December 24th, at 6:00PM. This will be just like our usual Church Online experience--the video will go live at 6PM, and we invite you to come early and say 'hi' in the chat!

In addition to our Church Online worship, we will also be offering a special time of fellowship on Zoom. Immediately following the Church Online video, we will open a Zoom meeting for a time of candle-lighting and Holy Communion. If you would like to participate, all you will need is a candle, and a piece of bread and some juice.

We'll send this information out again on Thursday, but when the time comes you can click here to join the meeting on your computer, smartphone, or tablet. If you would like to join by phone, dial 1-301-715-8592, and enter the Meeting ID (871 2643 2187) and the Passcode (252888) when prompted.

In-Person Worship and Activities Temporarily Suspended

This week the Administrative Boards of Prospect and Cross Roads met for their regularly scheduled meetings. Aside from the usual business items, the main topic of conversation was our response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in our area.

Both Administrative Boards reached the difficult decision to temporarily suspend all in-person activities within The Gatchelville Charge, effective immediately.

We will be transitioning to online worship and activities at least through the end of the year. We are committed to immediately begin planning on how to safely and inclusively return to in-person gatherings in the new year.

Thankfully, we were able to maintain our website and YouTube channel over the summer, and we will again be able worship together on those platforms. Stay tuned to gatchelvillecharge.org and for more email updates with information on how we will be able to stay connected and engaged.

This is undoubtedly unwelcome news, particularly at this time of the year. However, I encourage you to look at this as an opportunity instead of an obstacle. While we are missing out on so many traditions and activities this year, we have an opportunity to remember that Christmas isn't about dinners or decorations, presents or pageants, songs or stars.

It's all about Jesus.

And nothing, NOTHING, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:39)

Finally, please remember that Church isn't 'cancelled' or 'closed'. That's dangerous and wrong-headed thinking! CHURCH is simply getting back to the basics, back to her roots. This is our opportunity to show the world that Church isn't a place, it's not something we do, it's not a group activity or a spectator sport. It's who we are!

God didn't come into this world in lumber and nails. He came in flesh and blood. And He still does! So go! Take Christmas into the world. Study the Gospels with your family. Worship Jesus with your friends. Share the Good News of His birth with your neighbors. Let this be the year that the True Light of Christmas breaks free from our buildings and shines all across our communities and our world!

This is an exciting time to be the Church! God is doing something big--and we get to be a part of it!

Blessings!
